Best quotes in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

Austen ... Keira Knightley snuggles up toMr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.

IT IS a big year for those in love with the literary genius Jane Austen. The 28th January marks the 200th anniversary since the first publication of the book Pride and Prejudice. You may remember this one from the film of the same name starring the lovely Keira Knightely. But before Knightley came the book and it is a cornerstone of English classes across the UK. If you haven’t heard of Pride and Prejudice here is the quick rundown.

Girl meets boy, sparks fly, but boy falls in love with an unlikely and socially unacceptable match. Pride and prejudice holds the two characters back from what they truly want and so the task of deciding what to do begins.

To celebrate the anniversary here are our favourite quotes from Pride and Prejudice…read them carefully some are important life lessons:

“A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.” – Boys take note of this one

“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” – This sounds like something from Batman

“What are men to rocks and mountains?” – Try this next time you suffer a break-up ladies

“I have not the pleasure of understanding you.” – Ideal for when you face Cockney rhyming slang.

“Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion.” – Stand by your beliefs and opinions because they are what make you unique.

“I am excessively diverted.” – Is this a posh way of saying you got distracted while studying?

“The distance is nothing when one has a motive.”  - We hope you feel this way about studying in the UK.
