Pimm’s is a gin liqueur that is popularly drunk during the summer months (as short as they are in the UK) and the drink of choice for the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament and served at posh summer garden parties.
It was invented by James Pimm in 1823 and sold as a drink to aid digestion. In total he launched six flavours, using different alcohols but the most popular one remaining is Pimm’s No.1.
The drink is refreshing, sophisticated and doesn’t taste of alcohol. There are a few variations on the recipe but the classic way to make the drink is to cut up cucumbers, oranges, strawberries and apples, mix it with lemonade, ice and the liqueur.
The ultimate Pimm’s recipe (Serves 2-3 people)
- 200ml Pimm’s No.1
- 600ml Lemonade
- 1 Orange
- 10 Strawberries
- 1/3 cucumber
- Plenty of mint
- Knife & cutting board
- Jug & glasses
- Slice orange and strawberries. Prepare mint leaves.
- Layer fruit slices and leaves in the jug.
- Pour in Pimm’s and lemonade.
- Stir well.
- Pour into glasses, make sure to get ice in each of them.
- Garnish with cucumber.
